JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Counsellors assist people with personal, family, educational, mental health, and career problems. Job opportunities for counsellors are very good because job openings are expected to exceed the number of graduates from counselling programs.
The health care and social assistance industry employs about 47 percent of counsellors, and state and local government employ about 11 percent
Employment of psychologists is expected to grow 15 percent from 2006 to 2016, faster than the average for all occupations. Employment will grow because of increased demand for psychological services in schools, hospitals, social service agencies, mental health centres, substance abuse treatment clinics, consulting firms, and private companies. Competition for admission to graduate psychology programs is keen. Overall employment of psychologists is expected to grow faster than average.
Social Workers are greatly needed in each community, clients that a social worker may work with include: ethnic groups, young and adult offenders, children, families, travellers, older people, homeless people, unemployed people, those with drug and alcohol problems. Social workers work as part of a team covering a geographical area.
